Drag Show for City Council Candidates
Today, October 9, three city council candidates will be at the 1912 center for a Drag Show. The three candidates who will be there are Sandra Kelly, Maureen Laflin, and Anne Zabala. This is according to the Facebook Event. The event says that Sandra Kelly has organized it. Sandra Kelly is also the President of the Board of Directors who runs the 1912 Center, according to the 1912 Center website.
The Drag Show event is called Drag the Vote.
The Drag Show will be produced by TabiKat Productions. This production company is run by Kathy Sprague and Tabitha Simmons. The Tabikat Production company has been going for 24 years in Moscow. Sprague and Simmons are also owners of Safari Pearl Comics and Eclectica.
This writer attempted to contact all three candidates via email. Sandra Kelly and Maureen Laflin responded to questions. They both asked that their full responses be posted unedited. Those are below.
There are six candidates running for three open seats on City Council. Each seat is for a four-year term. The city council election is November 5.
Maureen Laflin’s responses.
1. Could you briefly explain what this event is?
The event is designed to connect with people in our community and to hear their concerns.
2. How do you see this kind of event fitting in the Moscow community?
I see events like this as a necessity. Everyone who is a member of the community needs to have a voice.
3. If you are elected to City of Council, will you be part of future events like this?
Yes. It is necessary for a member of Moscow City Council to stay in touch with all of her constituents.
4. Do you know if other candidates were invited to the event?
I can’t answer this question as I am not responsible for the invitations. ~Maureen

2. How do you see this kind of event fitting in the Moscow Community?
For years Moscow has had drag shows and many community members enjoy them, look forward to them and attend, so yes, I see this kind of event fitting in the Moscow Community.
3. If you are elected to City Council, will you be part of future events like this?

This is a full price rental of the 1912 Center’s Great Room. Any candidate can rent the Great Room to host a public event. The cost is $106 per hour to do so. Just so it is clear that Sandra Kelly rented the 1912 Center for this event and all our council candidates are welcome to do so.
